Our tour to Azenhas do Mar begins in Sintra, through the dense forest and the micro-climate mountain range till Azenhas do Mar.
Azenhas do Mar is a village on the coast of the municipality of Sintra, parish of Colares.
Developing along a river / water line that runs to the Atlantic and breaks the cliffs of the coast, and in which there were watermills (hence the name). There at the base a beach in which there is an oceanic pool.
In addition to the picturesque natural landscape, there are several buildings of interest in the Azenhas. Particularly in the Portuguese Smooth Style, especially with tiles on the facades, such as the school and the residence for the teacher.
Presence in all touristic routes of Portugal, it is currently the second dwelling of many, with its resident population of 800 inhabitants.
Traditionally, in addition to the milling activity, the main activities were agriculture, with special emphasis on wine and some fishing and collection of shellfish (barnacles and limpets).
